Corsica: this rugged island beauty has its own culture, and a long time love-hate relationship with France, but short of full independance. Gulf of Porto (UNESCO) with Scandola Nature Reserve, Bonifacio Citadel, Ajaccio , Palais Fesch Art Museum, and the best beach I have seen in France:plage de Saleccia, less than 2 hours west of Bastia.
