Highlights:
Ashgabat (the city of love) with its huge marble buildings and grandiose monuments, the Independance monument, the monument of Neutrality, Turkmenbashy Ruhy Metjidi Gypjak Mosque, Tolkucka Bazaar, National Carpet museum with the second largest carpet in the world 14x21 meters, Lenin monument.
Russian market, Halk Haydasy 1945 Memorial Complex overlooking the city, National museum (reserve enough time), evening Berk Garden Pub with draft beer same name, Merv UNESCO Kyz Kala with the remains of huge palace fortresses, but also the Mausoleum of Sultan Sanjar, a total of 33 locations and around 100 km2 of size, it is one of the largest archaeological World Heritage sites worldwide, Burning Crater of Derweze (still impressive, beware of sandflies in the area of the Karakul desert)
Paerthian Fortress of Nisa UNESCO. Celebrated my 1000th UNESCO visit to the great archaeological site of Konya Urgench with its magnificent Turabek Kanum Mausoleum and the great reclining Minaret. Visited also Izmuskshir (Zamakshar), part of the Turkmen Silk Road. Anau Ancient City on the outskirts of Ashgabat.
