Highlights:
Abu Dhabi-the capital-newly opened Louvre museum, one of the best in the Middle East, with beautiful pieces of art. The opulent Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan the First Mosque, has 82 domes, great designs in mosaic tiles and gorgeous crystal chandeliers. Emirates Palace Hotel with an ATM machine that spits out real gold bars. In front is the Emirates Palace Fountain and an Observation desk on the 74th floor of the Etihad Towers with a 360° city view. Dubai Palm Jumeirah Island is man-made, a megaproject, ongoing since 2001 with five star hotels like the Atlantis (worth a visit, even as a non guest, go to the Lost Chambers as well), plus the Waterpark with sharks, Skydive Center and top restaurants in a nice setting. It can be reached by Monorail. Jumeirah archeological site with ruins dating back to the 10th century. Dubai Gold Souk, and nearby Perfume and Old Souk. Historical quarter Al-Fahidi, Dubai Museum. Dubai Frame. Take the local boats crossing Dubai Creek, they leave when full, it takes only a few minutes. Here is also the best point to watch the loading of the local dows, traditional wooden cargo boats, best seen while smoking a shisha along the Creek in Bur Dubai. Mall of Emirates with a bit of a Swiss mountain feeling: you can go skiing here!Buj Al Arab Hotel has become a landmark of Dubai with its distinguished silhouette, to get a first hand impression, you can book a cocktail at its glitzy Sky Bar, or go for the Afternoon tea. On the other hand, Burj Khalifa with 828 meters the highest building in the world, you can visit the platform "At the Top" on the 124th floor by highspeed elevators in just one minute. Khor Fakkan for its wide sandy beaches, it is on the east coast. Sharjah Heritage and Art Museums, very good indeed. Al-Noor-Mosque on Khalid Lagoon. Al Ain, famous for camel markets, fortresses and the Oasis UNESCO 12,000km2 of size with about 150,000 date palm trees, and open to the public. Sheikh Zayed Palace Museum which was the former residence of His Highness. Al-Jahili Fort. In Paco's they serve Bitburger Draft, just in case! Hatta Lake.
